Hula Hoops

Stand upright, sensing moment by moment for a dynamic, active alignment in your bones.

Begin to spin an imaginary hula hoop around your middle. Allow your whole spine to respond, and notice that if you release your head, it will move in opposition to the hips. You might imagine that you have multiple hula hoops spinning: on your knees, elbows, and various parts of your torso. Allow the breath to respond freely to this semi-chaotic movement.

After a few moments, add some easy vibration to the outgoing breath. Allow the voice to move as you continue to gyrate the various parts of your skeleton. Aim for ease, spontaneity, and surprise!

When you’re finished, take a few moments to sense your breath and any shifts in your energy or alignment. Try to take this awareness with you into the next thing you do.
